More Computer Memory Equals Faster PC

Computer memory is also called RAM and is the computers internal working space. Everything that the computer is working on at a given period, whether it be basic tasks like running the operating system, simple tasks like viewing photos or reading email, or more complicated tasks like playing games or media editing, needs to sit in the computers memory so that the CPU can have access to it. Furthermore, the RAM needs to not only hold the data on which one is working, but also the programs necessary to work with it. In the event that a computer does not have enough memory, it can use a file on the hard drive called a pagefile or swapfile to hold active tasks. The problem with this is that it is extremely slow. While the fastest computer memory, DDR3 SDRAM at 800 MHz, can transfer data at a blistering rate of 12,800 megabytes per second, the fastest hard drive on the market is not even one percent as fast with a transfer rate of 127.3 MB/s
